Beauty: From the Eyes of the Beholder to the Heart Within

Does beauty really lie in the eyes of the beholder? It is indeed a subjective vision, a sensual taste, a unique innermost perspective that mirrors our individual perception. But where can we find beauty and how is it defined? What is beautiful to someone who is blind?

Beauty is not confined to the external world; it transcends into the realm of emotions and relationships. If you find something to be beautiful, it will appeal to all our senses, and you will feel its presence, deep within; and you will appreciate it for what it is.

It could be something aesthetically pleasing to the eye like a painting in a museum, a picturesque natural scenery, the feeling of sea waves touching your feet on a lovely evening, or taking a leisurely autumn stroll in the park.

It could be a song so meaningful that it pulls your heartstrings, soothes the soul, and calms the mind.

It could be a poem that shakes you within, it could also be a kind gesture by someone, an encouraging word, or a helping hand when it is most needed, or an effort someone takes to put a smile on your face.

It’s in the warmth of a hug from a dear friend when you’re feeling down, the unspoken understanding between two people who have shared countless moments together, the laughter that fills a room when a family gathers around the table.

It’s in the genuine compassion that one human extends to another during their darkest hours.

In the grand tapestry of life, beauty often follows the law of reflection. If you look closely, you’ll see that the beauty you find in the world is a mirror of the beauty within you. Just as we perceive beauty in the external world, it’s often a reflection of the love, empathy, and compassion we carry within ourselves.

If you think about it, we are surrounded by beauty. It is quite ironical that there’s so much diversity within this one word, yet it is individual to everyone. Hence, what you love will appall someone else. Our ability to see, feel, and appreciate the beauty in unexpected situations, even in the darkest times, makes us beautiful.

Too often, we look at people and our difficulties, and we assume (usually the worst) we got them, or how we ended up in the mess of our struggles. We tend to think that our problems are the consequences of our actions. Rather than assuming, if we have the courage to understand that humans are supposed to have frailties, and that unpleasant emotions come up, that it’s okay to be sad, anxious, drained, or lost, and work through the ugliness, the hurt, and heal, that makes you a beautiful person.

In the end, beauty is not a single, rigid concept. It is a mosaic of experiences, emotions, and connections. It’s the love that flows through our veins, the empathy that binds us to others, and the resilience that helps us rise from adversity. It is the essence of our humanity, and it shines through in every facet of our lives.
